Marketing Tip #2 - for better web rankings

    Thursday, June 28, 2007, 07:34 AM [Marketing]

     Hi,

One major aspect that search engines really love is fresh content.

    Why... I hear you shout?

Well, the search engines know that people who search the web want to find the latest information on a particular subject. If a website's information has not changed for sometime, a search engine will consider that the information on that site is becoming dated and may not be as relevant as it once was.

Search engines are able to detect when new information has been added to a website or whether anything has changed since its last visit.

If a website's information (words, decriptions etc), stay the same then Google et al will come to the conclusion that this old and dated information is less relevant and your website could start to drop down the rankings... and sometimes it will just plummit!

Conversely, if Google and friends notice new fresh information (content) on a website, it will conclude that this site is still relevant and it will maintain and even improve its ranking.

In fact a website that constantly has new content, will be visited more often by Google et al and is more likely to be rewarded with a higher ranking.

Marketing Tip for better Google Rankings

    Tuesday, June 26, 2007, 09:28 AM [General]

    Hi,

It's not enough just to have a website if you want to use the internet to increase your client numbers. You need to get your website the highest ranking as possible in the main search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo. Not many potential clients will go to page 50 of the search engines to find you if that is where your website is renked.

A search engine ranking on the first five pages can be a good start and then, once that is achieved, aim to be on page 2 and if possible page 1.

So how can you do this?

Firstly, you want your website to appear in the first few search engine pages for words or descriptions that are applicable to your business. These words are called "keywords". So if you live in Ipswich your keywords could be "ipswich hypnotherapist" "ipswich hypnosis" etc. You wouldn't want to appear in the search engines for car tyres. The use of keywords helps the search engines to decide which sites are relevant to someone who is searching the internet.

If you are a hypnotherapist in Ipswich and a potential client types in "ipswich hypnosis" in Google you would want your website to have a good ranking for these keywords.

As stever has said in one of his marketing tips, a way of helping this happen is to include keywords in any links you add to your blogs or other postings your keywords. For example:-

    "Ipswich Hypnosis"

(I used the chain link symbol at the top of this blog writing facility to acheive this)

When a search engine like Google finds such a link it will remember that for the keywords "ipswich hypnosis", your website is relevant.

Now, what will also help is if you include in your descriptions on your website those same keywords again eg. "ipswich hypnosis". The search engines like to see consistency between keywords you have said are important to you and the use of those keywords in the descriptions/words/phrases that you have used on your website.

One of the main keywords I have noticed that tends to be missing or buried in a therapist's website is the "location". Sometimes it is relegated to a "contact" page within the website.

If your website does not mention your location at least once, and I would try to mention at least 2 or 3 times, then you could be missing out on a higher ranking for the keywords that are important to your therapy practice.

Remember that there are thousands of websites that compete for a high search engine ranking for the keyword "hypnotherapy" but far fewer will compete for "your-location hypnotherapy" eg. "ipswich hypnotherapy" as stever as suggested.

    Best wishes

    Greetings from London

    Saturday, June 16, 2007, 06:10 AM [Hypnotherapy]

Hello and thanks for stopping by my blog hypnospace!

I am based in London, England.

I originally trained some 11 years ago in the days when you used to use quills for pens. Things never stand still for long and it has been fascinating to see the change in business marketing practice since the internet got in full swing.

As a hypnotherapist I love working with people who want to stop smoking and helping those who have a life restricting phobia be free of it.

As a professional hypnotherapist I am always looking for new innovations or even being reminded of some effective technique that may have become old and forgotten. To this end I was pleased to take the 5 Path course and happy to join the UK hypnotherapists who have taken the same path.

Some of you who drop by may know of me through one of the many books I have authored including 'Marketing for Complementary Therapists - 101 Ideas to attract clients' available from http://www.marketingtherapists.com/

Written partly I admit, for my own ego (the author in me), I also wanted to offer help to those brilliant therapists who may leave the profession because they didn't know how to market themselves.

Do drop me a line or a comment. I would love to hear from existing and new friends and colleagues alike!

    Steve
